Not really the most fun way to wake up...

A few days ago I woke up to a phone call that went something like this...

Neighbor: "Did Kendyl make it home yet?"
Me: "Huh? (I look at the clock) It's 7:30 in the morning."
Neighbor: "Kendyl was just at my house seeing if my kids could play."
Me: (Shooting straight up in bed) "What?"
(Door shuts from down stairs and scampering little steps run into a room upstairs and try to shut softly to Kendyl's room)
Me: "She's home. I'm sorry. She's dead meat." (hang up)

Me: "Kendyl!"
(no noise)
(phone rings again, Makenzie is just waking up and walking in my room and gets the phone)
Kenz: "Yah, she's right here."
(Oh great)
Me: "Hello"
Different Neighbor: (in a very very scratchy voice) "Hi Karalenn. Is Kendyl home yet?"
Me: (through gritted teeth) "Just now."
Neighbor: "She was just here seeing if my son could play."
Me: "I'm very sorry. I just woke up and didn't know she had left the house." (since she usually sleeps til 8ish)
Neighbor: "Yah, I just woke up too... because of Kendyl."
Me: "Uh, right. Uh... sorry about that. Have a good day."
Neighbor: (laughs and hangs up)

Me: "KENDYL FAE HIPPEN! GET IN MY ROOM THIS INSTANT!"
(Kendyl comes out of room pretending to be just waking up, but fully dressed down to her shoes)
Me: "Were you just at Dylan's and Bart's house?"
Kendyl: (looking shocked) "How did you know?"
(nice)
Me: "I was just talking to Bart's mommy. YOU woke her up!"
Kendyl: "oh."
Me: "Did you go to anyone else's house?"
(Kendyl then proceeded to name about 4 other neighbors. One on completely the other side of the park at the end of our street and a few houses up about 1/4 of a mile away. She told me they were all gone though so I didn't need to be mad.)
(Grrrrr. Knowing that she must have been out since about 7 to hit all those and was waking them all up too.)

(It is about this point as she is talking that I am looking around my room and seeing the disaster in there. My bed is completely blocked in chairs and boxes and bins.)
Me: "Were you trying to trap me here?" (pointing to the mess everywhere)
Kendyl: "No. I was building you a fun fort in your room this morning, but you wouldn't wake up and play with me."

Okay. So I'm not really sure what time this kid woke up to do all this to my room and make her social calls, but I do know she will never do it again. Our "little talk" lasted quite a while and her punishment will help her remember as well. After she left my room and shut the door I started laughing and had to call Seth at work to tell him all about it. Makenzie was still in my room and was very confused why I was laughing when it looked like I was about to breath fire the minute before while I was talking with Kendyl.

I'm sorry if you are one of our neighbors that she woke up. :)

Awesome! She's got quite the sense of direction. I don't think Ains could find her way around the neighborhood liket that.

We have had a few things like this happen. I was on the getting awakened by the neighbor kid end though. I always felt bad for the child going home to get in trouble. I also used it as a teaching tool for my children, to never ever do that. Just think, Kendyl just provided a great learning experience for the whole neighborhood.

WOW! She's so independent! I'm sure that will be to her advantage when she's older -- I pray you both can handle it in the meantime...Too funny! Loves ya!

At least she didn't take your car.

Did I ever tell you about the time I walked across most of Hollywood coming home from school, when I was NINE!

Funny thing, I just ran into an old picture of her from a Christmas party a few years back and was thinking about her. While I can't blaim either of you for how you saw it (you for being so scared and her for just wanting to play), I'm VERY happy she is safe. :D

That is so funny! Sounds like something her mommy would have done :)

I am so sorry that I am not one of your neighbors, we are always up at 7 and would have loved to have someone to play with at that lovely hour. Go Kendyl.

That has got to be one of the funniest stories I've ever heard. Talk about a heart-attack though! Glad you can laugh at it (now that she's home).

I remember that morning. I laughed pretty hard once I hung up with you. I also had a talk with Bart about never doing that. Funny thing, it's now okay to find someone to walk with in the morning. It seems Miss Kendyl opened that up for the kids of the neighborhood. I absolutely LOVE living near you and knowing your family.

I just wanted to invite you to look at my mom's new blog. No one really knows about it yet, and I want her to feel supported. Plus, you might be interested to see how she's doing! You can find a link to it on my blog. Hope you are feeling well. Let's have another playdate with Chrystal soon.
