Kenzie's been having a great time these past couple of weeks. She started her own bakery (again).
It's no surprise to anyone that knows her how much she loves to bake (invent) food. She began making her own creations at a very, very young age and now makes bread every week and dinner about 2-3 times a week. Which I think is pretty amazing for a 10 year old.
We like to look back at some of her creations and recipes that she use to make me post on her blog like (here) and (here -you'll have to scroll down to the Sugareeola Recipe) and many more. We've had to eat a lot of disgusting things in order to not discourage her budding talent and now it's paying off. :)

Now, the reason for a bakery....
Makenzie wants this...
A 3D dsi which get's released in stores March 27 of this year. And my goodness it's only the cheap price of $250!
You've got to be kidding me!? Well no, she's not. But that is what I said when she said she wanted one. Let me say first that she use to own a ds, which we bought and completely surprised her with on her 8th bday. She was too young to take good care of it and wouldn't remember to always put it away. In fact one day when I had already got after her 2 times to pick it up off the floor of her room I stepped on a shirt on the floor of her room and heard a crunchy sound. Well that clever girl tried to just cover it up with a shirt instead of taking the time to put it away. So I told her she could earn the money herself, but on her allowance that would take about 2 1/2 years. :) I also try to find anyway to teach my kids how to work for things they want. (i.e. she saved this entire last year to buy her own bike- she use to have a really nice one that was a gift, but after a few months she left it at the park and forgot to bring it home for 4 months! It was no surprise that it was stolen.) Maybe saving up and earning it herself will help her take better care of her stuff. I guess we'll see.

Apparently, saving for 2 1/2 years wouldn't do. She worked on the computer for several days making a flyer for a bakery. Then she spread the word (I helped too by swallowing my pride and posting it to a church blog to help her along). Before I knew it the orders were coming in like crazy. She cooks all Saturday morning (cookies, bread, truffle cake, fudge, etc.) and delivers by 2pm. In the past two weeks she's made almost $60! At this rate she'll have that 3dsi by it's release date.
Oh my kid!
Another bit of exciting news is that Makenzie has been selected to be in a city wide honor choir, which will have its performance on her bday of all days. :0) She couldn't be more excited! Every school in the city is allowed to pick only 3 children from 4th and 5th grade. Makenzie auditioned along with 1/3 of the 5th graders in her school and was chosen! She is beyond ecstatic. She found out just before school got out on Friday and came running off the bus to tell me. She jumped all around the house and proceeded to jump all around the backyard until she made it up to the top a tree screaming in delight. I absolutely love how she isn't too cool yet! :) Kinda like her mom I guess. I get pretty excited about things and can't help but show it.
Last of all, tomorrow in church she gets to give her first talk in sacrament meeting (in front of the entire congregation). She's been getting ready for it and is very excited and slightly nervous. We know she'll do great.
So here's to Makenzie- our growing, singing, entrepreneur of a kid who has a lot of stuff going on in her life! It's nice to have these small victories in the middle of a lot of regular, boring and sometimes crappy life. :) We sure love her.
